Its all about the H.Y.P.E Movement

kids7-handsin2009 is a time to continue PACIFIC SUPERHERO love and support for all our people around the world, pacific-worldwide who are leaders and role models for the present and future generations.

The HYPE Movement, is an initiative we’ve been made aware of from our Tongan sista Anapesi, who has pushed, reppin-that-hypedeveloped and supported what is a shinning light for our many Pacific Communities state-side.  So pass it on PACIFIC SUPERHEROES support whats good for our hood and check out the video, peace & luv!

‘The HYPE Movement was started by young Tongan university students (in the USA) who were devastated by the increase in high kids5school dropout rates, incarceration rates, and death rates in our Pacific Islander community. They wanted be engaged in bringing about a positive change in our young people. They wanted to be involved in a grassroots movement that would bring all youth together (regardless of race, class, and gender) united under one cause—the power to live our dreams and to emancipate (free) ourselves from the confinements and limitations that society has imposed upon us or that we have internalized. Livin’ the HYPE means striving to reach our greatest potential in order to recreate a world of endless possibilities for all our youth!

The HYPE MOVEMENT is living the very words of the legendary Bob Marley when he said “emancipate yourselves from mental slavery none but ourselves can free our minds”!!! Continue reading ‘Its all about the H.Y.P.E Movement’

Adam Watene – Testimonial Year

As some of you may or may not know, Adam Watene, my sister Moana’s partner of over 14 years died in October while working out at a gym in the UK. He was an athlete, a professional rugby league player, in the prime of his life and now he’s dead at 31. Moana is trying to be strong and I am doing my best to support her and help her in any way I can. As you can imagine, this is a difficult time for Mo and her two children Arana (10) and Ena (4).

Adam’s former clubs and friends in the UK have organized a testimonial year in his honor. The testimonial year – which officially started December 1 and will finish on November 30, 2009 – will help raise money for the Adam Watene Fund, set up to secure the future of Moana, Arana and Ena. I WILL BE COMING OVER NEXT MONTH TO SUPPORT THE JANUARY EVENTS – I hope to see some of you!

Please send this information to anyone you know that may be interested in attending any of the events or contributing to the fund. WRIST BANDS: Merchandise will be on sale Continue reading ‘Adam Watene – Testimonial Year’

Tapati Rapa Nui

‘Iorana PACIFIC SUPERHEROES its time for the festival search of the summer to save up and hit in our pacific lounge and playground. Rapa Nui Island should be on your list of must see and ‘I’m there!’ attitude, with their annual Tapati Rapa Nui / Easter Island Festival celebrated during the end of January and first weeks of February.

Its two weeks of arts & culture with singing, dancing and sporting competitions all in there to woohoo and chaaahoooo about :) lolz. Only caution is this is party time on the island, so not much else gets done by the locals as many parties are run along side the official festival right through the break of dawn. Info and a link follows. Manuia paka-paka!!! ;)

2009 Tapati dates: January 30th – February 14th

‘The yearly Easter Island festival, Tapati Rapa Nui, began in 1975. Back then, it was a song and poetry festival organized to attract tourists. Today’s sophisticated productions feature native dance, chant, and song, and competitions such as horse racing, woodcarving, fishing, kai kai (string figures), traditional body decoration, a parade, and a queen contest. The festival has become so popular that it has now been extended into a two-week event.

Tapati occurs at the height of the Summer season, usually at the end of January and the first of February. The dance and song performances generally are held in the island’s gymnasium but many are also out of doors, in front of one or another of the great ahu platforms, such as at Tongariki or Tahai. Some of these are more like “dance-drama” performances Continue reading ‘Tapati Rapa Nui’
