Reawakening

home_openingAloha PACIFIC SUPERHEROES, if you’re around the way on Oahu Island please go and check out this photographic exhibition ‘Reawakening’ currently at Honolulu Hale. Its supporting and cultivating the healing process for families who are hurt with the pains of incarceration, especially the pains that our children carry. This is a programme that I hope can gain more support and recognition through out the pacific, as we all know art as therapy is a liberty of expression with emotion, spirit, being and life force where words may not have been so free to dance. Peace + Luv PACIFIC SUPERHEROES,  mahalo nui ohana!!!

Project Focus Hawaii was established in 2005 as a means of enriching the lives of children suffering from emotional or physical problems. Through photography, like any art which can be used as a tool for healing and self-exploration, children of incarcerated women, acting as both photographers and subjects, have presented “Reawakening”, a collaborative exhibtion with Ka Hale Ho’ala Hou no na Wahine and the Women’s Community Correctional Centre [WCCC] on O’ahu. The project lasted 12 weeks during the summer. Photographers Laurie Callies and Lisa Uesugi made portraits of the children, who, in turn, photographed their mothers at prison, using Holga cameras. The exhibition is currently displayed at the Honolulu Hale courtyard 8am – 4.30pm weekdays, through til 29 January. For more info click here’

Its all about the H.Y.P.E Movement

kids7-handsin2009 is a time to continue PACIFIC SUPERHERO love and support for all our people around the world, pacific-worldwide who are leaders and role models for the present and future generations.

The HYPE Movement, is an initiative we’ve been made aware of from our Tongan sista Anapesi, who has pushed, reppin-that-hypedeveloped and supported what is a shinning light for our many Pacific Communities state-side.  So pass it on PACIFIC SUPERHEROES support whats good for our hood and check out the video, peace & luv!

‘The HYPE Movement was started by young Tongan university students (in the USA) who were devastated by the increase in high kids5school dropout rates, incarceration rates, and death rates in our Pacific Islander community. They wanted be engaged in bringing about a positive change in our young people. They wanted to be involved in a grassroots movement that would bring all youth together (regardless of race, class, and gender) united under one cause—the power to live our dreams and to emancipate (free) ourselves from the confinements and limitations that society has imposed upon us or that we have internalized. Livin’ the HYPE means striving to reach our greatest potential in order to recreate a world of endless possibilities for all our youth!

The HYPE MOVEMENT is living the very words of the legendary Bob Marley when he said “emancipate yourselves from mental slavery none but ourselves can free our minds”!!! Continue reading ‘Its all about the H.Y.P.E Movement’
